Latics player Jordan Flores was taken to hospital on Monday morning after a car crash.
Flores, on loan to Chesterfield, was taken to hospital after the incident, with the driver of another car airlifted to Sheffield for treatment.
The 22-year-old played in Saturday’s game at Cambridge United.
Derbyshire Police have not named Flores but did confirm that an incident involving two cars took place at around 8.20am this morning on Baslow Road, Eastmoor and two people were taken to hospital.
A statement Wigan Athletic released on Wednesday said: “Following a road traffic accident on Monday, the club can confirm Latics midfielder Jordan Flores has remained in hospital for monitoring and treatment.
“The club is in constant contact with Jordan and his family as well as Chesterfield FC and will continue to monitor his condition closely with all parties.
“Further updates will be issued when more details are available.”
