Murray back with Watford

SEAN Murray is back at Premier League Watford after drawing a line under his unsuccessful loan spell with Wigan Athletic.

The 22-year-old joined Latics on the eve of the season, initially on a one-month loan, which was quickly extended to the middle of January.

But he has struggled to make much of an impact at the DW, and found first-team opportunities extremely limited.

Murray’s last appearance for Latics was in the 4-0 JPT romp over Blackpool, when he scored his only goal for the club with a fine strike.

His only two league starts came in the 2-2 draw against Millwall and the incredible 3-2 victory at Chesterfield, when Latics scored all three of their goals following his 79th-minute substitution.

Murray admitted in our guest player column earlier this month he was desperate to fight his way back into the Latics reckoning.

But the writing was probably on the wall when he failed to make the squad for the JPT northern area semi-final defeat to Barnsley a fortnight ago.

Mindful of his lack of first-team football, Watford have decided it’s in the best interests of all parties if he returns to Vicarage Road.

Meanwhile, Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn believes the decision to offload two current Latics stars has contributed to the Millers’ problems this term.

Redfearn, a former Latics midfielder, watched his side lose 2-0 at Huddersfield in midweek to remain second bottom of the Championship.

“We just scraped by last year and probably didn’t recruit very well in the summer,” moaned Redfearn.

“We let good players like (Kari) Arnason, (Craig) Morgan and (Alex) Revell go, who are better players than what we’ve got.”

Morgan was allowed to join Latics on a free transfer over the summer, while Revell was sold to Cardiff at the turn of the year – before moving to the DW last month on loan.
