Wigan Athletic '˜have shown dressing room strength', says Will Grigg

Will Grigg reckons Wigan Athletic have shown what they're made of after smashing a four-game losing streak by kicking off a new three-match unbeaten run.

Latics picked up five points last week to stop the rot and move seven points clear of the Championship drop zone – and within touching distance of the top half.

And Grigg insists the side has laid a positive platform ahead of the festive period.

“It was a good week for us, coming on the back of a tough run of fixtures,” he said.

“We’ve reacted in the right way, we’ve shown the strength of the dressing room and we need to build on this.

“It’s another five points on the tally, and it could even had been a couple more.

“We know the festive period’s around the corner, and that’s always a hectic time with plenty of games.

“This is probably the last time we can really take stock before the fixtures come thick and fast, and we’ll try and make the most of it.”

Grigg returned to the starting XI at Bolton on Saturday for the first time in eight weeks after a hamstring problem.

He took only 25 minutes to get on the scoresheet, converting a penalty that he won, and enjoyed linking up with Josh Windass in the final third.

“We’ve not played together all that much since he’s been here, but I thought it worked really well,” Grigg acknowledged. “He holds up the ball well and likes to get in behind, and it’s great to play alongside.

“We didn’t get much out of the two big centre-halves, they dominated us, but when we got the ball down I thought we carried a real threat.”

And while the Bolton camp were angry at the penalty decision, claiming Jack Hobbs won the ball, Grigg says the referee got it spot on.

“It’s definitely a penalty,” he added. “From the TV angle it looks like he’s maybe got the ball, but I got there first.”
