Reece James

Wigan Athletic (4-2-3-1):

Christian Walton: 6 - Yet again didn’t have much to do because of the solidity in front of him, little chance with the goal.

Reece James: 7 - Still to have a below-par game for Latics and did everything at both ends with his usual style and grace.

Cedric Kipre: 7 - Becoming a real fan favourite and stood up strong when called upon during spells of Bolton pressure.

Dan Burn: 7 - More like the Dan Burn of old, brought the ball out of defence well with aplomb to underline growing confidence.

Kal Naismith: 8 - In danger of making the left-back role his own with his third impressive display in the space of a week.

* Sam Morsy: 8 - Imperious in the engine room, set the tempo, laid the platform and even on hand to help away a late Bolton chance. *

Lee Evans: 8 - Should have given Latics an early lead, but excellent display throughout alongside the skipper, impressive array of passing.

Nathan Byrne: 6 - Full of energy, complimented James on the right, but didn’t really offer enough of an end product at the top end.

Josh Windass: 8 - If he hadn’t fluffed his late chance - which his own brilliance created - would have been the match-winner, but otherwise excellent.

Gary Roberts: 7 - Will sleep well after three games in a week, but didn’t show his 34 years during his time on the field, again a lively threat.

Will Grigg: 7 - Welcome return to the starting XI after eight-week absence, ploughed the lone furrow, won the penalty and dispatched it clinically.

Subs:

Callum McManaman (for Roberts, 69): 6 - Chance to be the hero with a late chance but ball just wouldn’t run for him, otherwise lively cameo.

James Vaughan (for Grigg, 69): 6 - Will possibly have been miffed at bench role after superb show in midweek, not much came his way.

Joe Garner (for Windass, 90): No time to make an impact.

Subs not used:

Jamie Jones, Calllum Connolly, Leo Da Silva Lopes, Darron Gibson.

Star Man: Sam Morsy
