Jay Whittle looks at the social media reaction following Latics’ summer transfer deadline day as four players joined, and four players departed.

Wigan Athletic secured three new signings on deadline day, and a completed a further deal earlier on Friday morning with EFL clubs still able to sign players on loan, with clauses leading to a permanent deal in January, until the August 31.

Callum Connolly signed on a season-long loan from Everton, whilst forwards Josh Windass and Joe Garner joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee from Rangers and Ipswich Town respectively.

Like Connolly, Lee Evans later returned for a second spell at the DW Stadium, completing a loan to a guaranteed buy deal from Sheffield United this morning.

Deadline day saw three players leave Wigan Athletic, with an additional departure being confirmed this morning.

Jordan Flores headed to Swedish Allsvenskan side Ostersunds on loan until the end of the December, while Dan Burn made an unusual move to Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion. Burn signed a four-year-deal with Chris Hughton’s side but will stay at Latics on loan until January.

Ryan Colclough made a permanent switch to League One outfit Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee.

Latics’ final bit of business over the last 24 hours saw the departure of Max Power, who ended his three-year stay at Wigan Athletic to join Sunderland on a loan to guaranteed buy deal.

Whilst fans acknowledged it is a tough pill to swallow to see favourites Burn and Power both depart, the Latics faithful have been impressed at the new blood that has been brought in by boss Paul Cook and his recruitment team on deadline day.

@DFox94: “What a day for us yesterday! I think the majority of Latics fans are over the moon with our business. The season's objectives have just shifted from 'stay up' to 'stay close to the play-offs'. Feeling very optimistic after deadline day.”

@TalkingTics: “Connolly, Windass, Garner all came in yesterday. Very pleased with the deadline day even if we lost Dan Burn.”

@Benwafc2000: “What a cracking deadline day, even more excited for tomorrow now.”

@NickDurbano_: Very happy with @LaticsOfficial deadline day! Connolly, second stint, improved, versatile, highly rated at Everton. Garner, veteran striker, knows how to find the net, good depth. Windass, class, shrewd signing, adds a lot creatively, exciting partnership with Powell.”

@lewligan: “Gutted to see this lad go. What a player he's been for us, on and off the pitch. Cheers for everything you've done for @love4leximae. Forever be a legend round these parts, mate. All the best at Sunderland, @mp_1825.”

@PeteMillward79: “Thanks for everything, Max. You’ve been an absolute joy to have at our club. Needless to say best of luck for the future and you’ll always be welcome back.”

@GregFarrimond: “Couldn’t have asked for anymore from Burn, been great for us. Deserves a crack at the Prem - really hope he’s a success”

@DanRodenby: “Gutted Burn is leaving. Went from looking like a player from the crowd under Caldwell to man-marking Aguero & being an absolute mountain last season. Deserves a Premiership move, top defender that will keep improving.”

Reflecting on the transfer window (so far), Latics fans are happy with the club’s summer recruitment and are very hopeful for the season ahead.

‏@AS_caspey: “Feel good about what's happened in this transfer window. Think good business with Burn plus get to keep him until Jan. Made some quality additions, some of who already know the club and Cook. Plus kept hold of the likes of Powell. Got a good feeling!”

@benzos_downer: “Best transfer window we’ve had in about five years, genuinely could be finishing top half with a squad like this.”

@HarrisonTither: “Good window for Latics. Bought some promising young players and some proven pros! I’m quite optimistic about this season now! Good job @DavidSharpe91.”

@Essex_Wiganer: “Hats off to everybody at @LaticsOfficial for a fantastic transfer window and summer. Including @DavidSharpe91, Jackson, Cook. Can’t be hard making some decision they have to but get them right more often than not.”

‏@dunny913: “Our squad is looking banging now, could easily play 2 separate teams with the quality and depth we have, great transfer window @LaticsOfficial #wafc.”
