Wigan Athletic ‘will benefit from Morsy return’

Sam Morsy may not have made as much of a splash on international duty with Egypt over the past week or so.

But the Wigan Athletic midfielder still has time to play his way into their thinking ahead of the World Cup, according to Leam Richardson.

“Sam’s back in the group here, and it was a great experience for him to get away with Egypt – even though he didn’t get as many minutes as he would have liked,” acknowledged the Latics assistant boss.

“Fingers crossed he can finish the season on a high and force himself into the plans for the World Cup.”

Latics managed to win both games without their influential skipper – 3-0 at Walsall and 2-0 at Bury.

And Richardson made sure that fact was known to the midfield enforcer on his return to the group. “I’ve been quick to remind Sam that the team’s been winning without him, don’t worry about that!” Richardson chuckled.

“But seriously – and I’ve been lucky enough to work with him twice at different clubs – he’s an absolute pleasure to have around.

“He wants to win in training as well as matches, and every day he gives his all. Football is his life and he deserves all the good things that come his way.”
