Sunderland have announced the signing of former Middlesbrough player Stephen Wearne. The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal on Wearside after leaving Boro at the end of June, and he will link up with Elliott Dickman’s Under-23 squad to become their sixth summer signing. (Various)

2. Gills turn down big-money deal
Gillingham have turned down a six-figure offer for striker Brandon Hanlan. The player is free to join another club as he is out of contract but the Gills are entitled to compensation as the player is under the age of 24. (Kent Online)

Brett McGavin has signed a new two-year deal at Ipswich Town. The midfielder had one year remaining on his contract, but has now put pen to paper on a deal that will see him stay at Portman Road until the summer of 2022. (Various)
