Wigan Athletic's new owner: Why I bought this club

The Bahrain-based 'Phoenix 2021 Limited' group were confirmed as the club's new owners on Tuesday night, after nine months in administration.

And speaking for the first time about Latics, Al-Jasmi - who has selected a five-man executive board to run the club - explained his reasons for pushing the deal through.

"I am very delighted with the acquisition of Wigan Athletic " he said.

"I selected Wigan Athletic because of its great history, wide fanbase and excellent infrastructure including the DW Stadium and Christopher Park Academy, which will support the club for the future.

"My vision is to restore the club and to stabilise it, in order to bring it back to the Championship.

"I have selected an excellent executive team, to drive this club back to its glory days.
