Wigan Athletic's Sam Morsy has a Swiss role

The Egypt ace will miss the club’s next two games due to international duty in 
Switzerland.

It means he will miss tomorrow’s trip to Walsall and Saturday’s game at Bury as third-placed Latics aim to nudge back into the automatic-promotion spot.

Shrewsbury, three points above Latics in second, are at Northampton Town tonight.

Morsy said: “It’s not ideal for me, because you never want to be missing games.

“But I’ll be supporting the lads as much as I can from Switzerland and hopefully we can pick up two wins.”

Egypt play friendlies against Portugal this Friday and Greece four days later, both in Switzerland.

“It’s absolutely a big chance for me to show what I can ahead of the World Cup,” said the 26-year-old.

“I know what I need to do – impress the manager, simple as that!

“I need to work hard, train hard, play hard, and fingers crossed I’ll get my chance.”

He flew out in a positive mood following Sunday’s exciting FA Cup quarter-final, despite going down 2-0 to Southampton.

Latics were level 0-0 at half-time but weren’t able to add Mark Hughes’ Saints to the three other Premier League scalps they have claimed in the competition this season.

“It was a great team performance, and we know we had enough chances to have won the game,” said Morsy.

“When you don’t take your chances at this level, you get punished – and that’s exactly what happened.

“We had so much momentum and so much of the ball, and you have to make that count against top sides.

“And then the goals we conceded...especially the first one, it’s so poor, from a set-piece.

“Of course we’d have loved to have won the game and gone through to Wembley.

“But it wasn’t meant to be, it’s all on the league now, and we’ll be giving that our all.”
