Wigan need another win to be sure of safety but it's still tight at the bottom of the Championship

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook reckons one more victory will be enough for his men to be all but sure of securing their Championship status.

The Latics’ 3-0 win over Stoke City at the DW Stadium - their third successive victory since the season re-started - saw them move to 15th in the table, eight points clear of the drop zone

However, while Wigan can breathe slightly easier, the battle at the foot of the Championship is still all to play for with just six points separating the bottom seven sides, which includes the Potters who are in 20th spot just a point above the drop zone.

Barnsley dragged themselves off the bottom and to within a point of safety.

The Tykes defeated play-off hopefuls Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at Oakwell to move above Luton Town, although the Hatters battled to a 1-1 draw at league leaders Leeds United.

Charlton Athletic’s fine form continued as they picked up a point away at sixth placed Cardiff to go four points clear of danger.
