After knocking runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City out of the FA Cup on Monday, Latics come back down to earth with a bump on Saturday with the visit of Rochdale, who are currently propping up the third tier.

But Grigg is hoping Latics can continue to surf the wave of emotion that saw them generate headlines around the world.

“The atmosphere in and around the club in the last few days has been amazing,” Grigg acknowledged.

“I think you could sense in the first 20 minutes that we were going to give Man City a good game, and that was the way it panned out.

“The fans played a big part in getting us over the line, the atmosphere inside the stadium was amazing.

“If we can keep hold of a few thousand of them for Saturday that would be brilliant, and help us get back on track.”

Latics have a a handful of massive league games to negotiate before they host Southampton in the last eight of the FA Cup, knowing another win - a fourth over top-flight opposition this term - would take them through to a Wembley semi-final.

“It’s another Premier League tie, another big game,” added the Northern Ireland international.

“But we’ve got a few big games to come in the league before we can think about that.

“It’s vital we get back to winning ways in the league and Saturday is a big game for us.”
