THE journey to Gold at Rio’s 2016 Olympics starts now for one Wigan teenager.
Kyle Evans, 19, of Hindley, will race for Team GB in the first round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup at Manchester’s National Cycling Centre this weekend.
“All the medals and awards are little stepping stones in working towards a Gold medal at Rio 2016,” he said.
“The main priority is to give myself the best chance to be in contention when selection comes in the next three years.”
Evans was named as a substitute for London 2012, aged just 18 at the time, and made the final of the UCE BMX European Series opener in France earlier this month.
Manchester is the first of four rounds of a global series spanning three continents. Round two will take place in Argentina in May with the other two rounds taking place in the Netherlands and California.
The final round is set for Chula Vista, California on 27th and 28th September.
