JENNY Meadows is through to the semi-finals of the 800m at the World Athletics Championships.
The Wigan athlete was in action at the Beijing ‘Birdnest’ Stadium earlier today (Wednesday) and did enough to progress.
Meadows, 34, was in command for most of her heat before being overtaken near the line, finishing fourth.
The first three progressed, but her time of 2:00.37 was quick enough for her to make it through as the ‘fastest loser’.
The result will delight Meadows’ family and friends, given her misfortune with injuries in recent years and her commitment to getting back on the world stage.
Great Britain’s Lynsey Sharp and Shelayna Oskan-Clarke also qualified for the 800m semi-finals.
Sharp finished second (1:58.98) and Oskan-Clarke third (2:01.72) in their respective heats.
They will be back in action tomorrow (Thursday) from 1.05pm.
