ASHTON Athletic lost 4-3 in a cracking North West Counties premier division clash at Squires Gate.

A goal either side of the half-hour mark handed the hosts a 2-0 lead, but Athletic roared back with two goals in two minutes to level it up just before half-time.

On target were Bradley Cooke and Dan Smith.

Soon after the restart a couple more quick goals from Squires Gate made it 4-2, but at Athletic had the last word as Smith pounced to bring it back to 4-3 before time ran out.

Athletic host Glossop North End on Saturday.

In the first division, Ashton Town made their long trip north to Cumbria worthwhile as they drew 1-1 at Holker Old Boys.

James Banawich opened the scoring, before Old Boys struck back to level just after the restart.

Wigan Robin Park’s fixture at Daisy Hill was frozen off.

The Robins travel to Leyland tomorrow night for their Lancashire Challenge Trophy semi-final clash against Evostik League outfit Chorley.
