Park lose out to Ashton

AFTER a winning penalty shootout at Clitheroe in the Lancashire Trophy on Tuesday, Robin Park were back in league action on Saturday but lost 4-2 to Ashton.

The first half was dour, as both sides fought for the upper hand but just before half time, ex Robins favorite Ryan Small pounced to give Ashton the lead. In the 61st minute when Robins captain Craig Hanley ran into the penalty area to head home a close header Haines was brought down and Hanley brushed himself down and blasted the ball into the net from a penalty for the equaliser.

Almost immediately after Small was left to score.

Then all hell let loose as we were caught in a thunderstorm accompanied by freakisly heavy rainfall.

In the 89th minute, Richie Livingston managed to guide the ball through the standing water on the pitch to make the final score 4-2.

IN the Garswood Trophies Premier Division Leigh Rangers move into top spot with a 5-1 thrashing of Shevington with Chad Drake notching a hat-trick.

Hindley Town are right behind them after beating the out of form Winstanley St Aidan’s 2-1 as Dave Moore and Gary Hunt got their goals and Stuart Berkley replied for the Saints.

Former leaders Pemberton crashed 2-1 at home to Belair whose scorers were Scot Peach and Neil Davies with Scot Barrett replying for the home side.

Bickerstaffe slammed AFC Scholes 5-2 with two apiece from Sean Cocks and Sean Bowden. Standish St Wilf’s hit Atherton Royal for seven with Greg Berry claiming a hat trick.

Aspull still top the McHale Baker Wills & Trusts Division One but their lead is being eroded by the chasing pack. Aspull lost 1-0 at home to Bickerstaffe Res.
