WINSTANLEY Park cricket club’s second XI ended the season on a real high note by securing league title victory.
Batting first on the infamous Dukes Row wicket at Aspull, Winstanley achieved a decent total of 95 against Hindley St Peter’s thirds thanks to Ian Hetherington who ground out a score of 48 in over two hours. Hindley’s captain Mark Hardman took 5-41 in 21 overs.
Hindley lost Charlie Delargy to the first ball of their innings and that set the scene for the rest of the day as they crashed to just 59 all out.
When star man Alec Rushton went for 14 the remainder of the wickets fell quickly, thanks in part to the unpredictable pitch.
The win was made sweeter when it was found that previous leaders Ashworth had lost at Bretherton, so Park’s seconds took the title in dramatic fashion.
