FORMER BDO world champion Richie Burnett has been handed an 18-month ban after testing positive for cocaine, UK Anti-Doping has announced.
Burnett tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, on November 3 last year at the PDC Grand Slam Qualifier at Robin Park Sports Centre in Wigan.

The Welshman’s suspension has been backdated to that date, meaning his ban expires on May 2 next year.
The 48-year-old, who won the BDO World Masters in 1994 before winning the world title the following year, lost an appeal against his ban.
UKAD’s director of legal Graham Arthur said: “All athletes adhere to the principle of strict liability. No matter what the circumstances, they are solely responsible for any prohibited substance found in their system.
“This can be challenging for athletes, as the onus falls to them to prove how, and why, their sample tested positive, and to show there was no significant fault.”
