A LOCAL women’s rugby team is celebrating some very special silverware.
Leigh East Ladies beat York Ladies by a whopping 44 to 4 to clinch the WARLA Winter League Plate Final at Rochdale Mayfield.
But this was not the team’s first big tournament, as they were the champions of the division one WARLA Summer League against Stanningley in October.
Coach Simon Reynolds said: “The team did really well, especially as we are a small squad, and the morale is fantastic at the moment.
“Things were positive going into the game and it carried on throughout.
“The girls put everything into the match and came out clear winners.
“For the first half they were very dominant and took a commanding lead.
“The girls are very buoyant about their victory and can’t wait to get into the summer league.
“The competition is a bit different because there are more teams and more travelling involved, but if the girls can play like they have done, we can certainly be up there.”
n Leigh Ladies East, which has 20 players, is looking for new members.
