Transfer deadline day full round up

LIVERPOOL’S out-in-the-cold midfielder Joe Cole joined French champions Lille on a season-long loan deal in the first big-name move of transfer deadline day.

The 29-year-old travelled to France on Tuesday to undergo a medical and, despite a late bid by Aston Villa, the player has opted to join the Ligue 1 club.

“Liverpool announced today it had finalised a deal with Lille OSC for the loan transfer of Joe Cole,” said a club statement.

“The 29-year-old will now join the French champions for the remainder of the current campaign.”

Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles was another to leave Anfield, completing a last-gasp move to Chelsea.

Chelsea swooped after missing out on Tottenham’s Luka Modric.

Liverpool also sold Christian Poulsen to Evian but completed a surprise deal for former striker Craig Bellamy, now surplus to requirements at Manchester City.

Arsenal completed the signing of Brazil full-back AndreSantos, 28, from Turkish champions Fenerbahce.

Manager Arsene Wenger said: “Santos is a quality player, with the ability to both defend well and get forward and help with attacks.”

Arsenal also signed Everton’s Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta in a £10m deal, Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea on a season-long loan and Werder Bremen’s Germany defender Per Mertesacker.

QPR completed the signing of Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 29-year-old became the fourth major signing of the Tony Fernandes era, following Joey Barton, Luke Young and Armand Traore to West London.

The transfer brings an end to Wright-Phillips’ second spell at City and he admitted Rangers’ ambition helped sway him.

“I am very delighted at the moment, I am just really looking forward to it all kicking off,” he said.

“After speaking to the manager and hearing the direction this club are going in, I wanted to help that happen.”

Scott Parker’s switch to Tottenham was the main move of the afternoon.

Spurs completed the signing of England midfielder Parker in what is believed to be a £6m deal.

Winger David Bentley moved in the other direction, joining the Hammers on a season-long loan.

Peter Crouch left White Hart Lane for Stoke, who also signed Birmingham’s Cameron Jerome.

Stoke also completed the signing of Wilson Palacios from Tottenham with barely an hour of the transfer window remaining.

Blackburn landed Birmingham defender Scott Dann on a four-year deal.

Ben Turner has completed his switch from Coventry to Cardiff for an undisclosed fee.

Meanwhile, Coventry have secured the signature of in-demand striker Cody McDonald from Norwich on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, including Peterborough, MK Dons and Sheffield Wednesday, having bagged 25 goals while on loan at Gillingham last season.

Watford signed striker Joe Garner from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old penned a two-year deal at Vicarage Road.

Blackpool landed striker Daniel Bogdanovic on a one-year deal from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

Millwall signed winger Liam Feeney from Bournemouth on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Burnley have completed the signing of forward Junior Stanislas from West Ham for an undisclosed fee.

MK Gons signed Sheffield Wednesday defender Mark Beevers on loan until the end of December.
