NORTHGATE Vehicle Hire Division Three leaders Atherton George met Landgate Springs for the second week running.

Last week was a very close affair but this time George blitzed their opponents 9-0.

In a day of massive scores in this division Ashton Villa thrashed Farnworth 11-1 with Gaz Smith netting an unbelievable eight goals, with Dave Griffiths, Si Parry and an own goal adding the others.

Black Bull also had a field day, hammering Hurlston Hall 9-2 with the usual suspect Martin Foster grabbing yet another hat trick. Gidlow Reserves defeated AFC Waterside 2-1 with Danny Ratcliffe getting both goals and Steve Darton replying.

Ince Central Reserves drew 2-2 with Skelmersdale Celtics as Dale Wood and Andy Moseley got their goals and Danny Bowen and Steve Baxter netted for the visitors.

In a tight match at Lawson Avenue Sporting Leigh drew 1-1 with Billinge Community as Tom Hayes goal was matched by Andy Brady.

Garswood Trophies Premier Division top dogs Winstanley St Aidan’s stormed to a 10-1 home win over bottom-placed Atherton Royal with Dave Quigley claiming a hat-trick, while Pemberton pulled off a useful 2-0 victory at Standish St Wilf’s courtesy of Garry Hughes and Ian Atherton.

At the other end of the table both Bickerstaffe and Shevington couldn’t manage a goal between them.

AFC Scholes gained an impressive 4-0 win at Hindley Town with the ever dependable Scot Peach scoring twice.

It needed a goal from Ian Gaskell to see Ince Central home at Gidlow Athletic, while a Luis Eden penalty was enough for Newburgh Harrock United who won 1-0 at Downall Green.

Digmoor edged out Leigh Rangers 2-1. Adam Leadbetter netted an early spot kick but Steve Marsh levelled matters, only for a late Steve Tomaselli winner to push Digmoor into second place in the table.

The leaders of North West Gas and Solar Heating Division Two are AH Leisure who boast a proud 100% record. They defeated Hindley Town Reserves 5-1, while Boars Head beat Cart and Horses 3-1.

Goals from Sean Rowley and Mick King saw Punchbowl home 2-1 against Pemberton Reserves.


IN the Houghton Cup, Goose Green Res visited Lower Ince and won 5-0 with Mike Aspey [2], Nick Hill, Mike Walsh and Danny Ralphs on target for Green.

Checker Lane won narrowly, 5-4 at Leigh Rovers with Murray [2], Parker, Berkley and Thompson the marksmen for Checker Lane.

Academy Sports won 4-3 against Olympic and stifled a fight back at the same time as they led by 3-0. Adam Davies, Martin Neville, Chris Berry and an own goal were on target for Academy Sports. Dave Williams [2] and Richie Cunningham replied for Olympic Athletic.

Forefield Rangers narrowly beat Horwich St Mary’s Res 2-1, with Carl Morris and Keiron Kelly on target. Jordan Coops scored for Saints.

A goal in each half by Eliot Gaskell and Jamie Taylor saw AFC Rainford progress to the next round at the expense of PNC Athletic.

Parklands were too strong for Standish Park Rangers and won 4-0. Danny Davies [2], Paul Redhead and Chris Partington were the marksmen.

Two second-half penalties by Gary Kenyon saw St Cuthbert’s win 2-0 against Digmoor.

Digmoor Res ran out 5-1 winners against Hindley Green Spinners with Curtis Byrne scoring a hat-trick. Phil Jenkins and Lee Phillips also netted.

After a 2-2 scoreline Ince United beat Leigh Genesis in a penalty shoot-out.

In Division One Orrell Sorrento beat Ashton Villa 4-1. Chris Duffy, Steve Greaves, Luke Bradshaw and Adam Walters were on target. Matt Verinda replied.

Halsall Res went down 3-1 in their Division Two clash against Orwell with John Barclay, Jordan Patten and Liam Bache on target. Danny Highton had earlier equalised for Halsall.

North Star lost for the first time this season against Halsall, 3-2 in a scintillating contest. A terrific opener by James Fagan gave North Star a lead on 20 minutes.

Alex Grisedale scored a brilliant solo goal in the second half to level matters, and his second on 70 minutes gave Halsall the lead.

A brilliant through ball by Martin O’Neill saw Danny Gurhy run on and score to square the game at 2-2.

A late Dave Mawdsley goal won the game for Halsall.

Ross Ellison [4] and Ben Mollitt [3] helped Aspull to a 13-1 win at Leigh Centurions.

Goose Green’s Richie Livingston scored a hat-trick as they came from 1-0 down to beat Golborne Parkside 6-4.

Jamie Livingston, Duncan McPhail and Adam Sheridan were also on target for Green. Nathan Dury [2], Danny Harrison and Dave Hughes replied for Parkside.

Orrell Otters came away from Wigan Cosmos with a 2-1 victory.

Knowsley South and Highfield Grange fought out a 1-1 draw.

There were hat-tricks for Andy Simm and Darryl Hall as Penlake beat Horwich St Mary’s 8-4.

In the Youth Under 17s Division, Ashton Athletic and Horwich St Mary’s served up a thrilling contest, which ended 4-4.

Athletic raced 3-0 into the lead thanks to Callum Gaskell’s two and Rob Thomas. Jacob Fuller struck a brace for the Saints but Oliver Grocott put Ashton Athletic 4-2 ahead. Two late goals by Oliver Dickson and Liam Gash earned a point for St Mary’s.
