THERE were goals galore in Northgate Vehicle Hire Division Three as Hurlston Hall – who led 2-1 early on – were thrashed 11-3 by the league’s top scorers, Ashton Villa.

Ian Sheppard put Hall in front with an early penalty, but Villa levelled soon after through Rob Naylor. Carl Webb then put the home side 2-1 up but back came Villa with another strike from Naylor. Leading scorer Gaz Smith then put the Ashton side ahead for the first time.

The second half was only moments old when Smith made it 4-2. Then in an amazing 15 minutes of play Villa scored six goals!

The first from Marc Case, then Smith made it 6-2, Dave Griffiths got goal number seven and Smith added goal number eight to take his personal tally to four. Almost immediately Griffiths fired home and then to complete the lethal quarter-of-an-hour Smith added his fifth.

Hall did not give in and Ben Barnes reduced the arrears, but in the dying seconds Jimmy Armstrong put through his own goal to end a miserable day for the home side who now slide into bottom place in the table.

Leaders Atherton George could only draw 2-2 at Skelmersdale Celtics, while second-placed Black Bull lost 2-1 at AFC Waterside. Sean Todd and Barry Kenyon got their goals, with Rob McKlerenin replying.

Gidlow Res drew 4-4 with Billinge Community with home striker Danny Ratcliffe grabbing a hat-trick.

Farnworth Town got their first point in a 3-3 draw with Winstanley Wariors, while Sporting Leigh picked up a useful win, 3-2 at high-riding Ince Central Res with goals from Jamie Bradley, Wayne Hampson and David Jacks. Marcus Cusani and veteran Ian Togher netting for the losers.

Garswood Trophies Premier Division leaders Winstanley St Aidan’s edged out Pemberton 1-0 thanks to Mat McCoy’s effort.

Standish Wolfs, who are right behind them, slammed AFC Scholes 5-2 with Kevin Wilson netting twice.

Shevington won by the odd goal in three at Atherton Royal with goals from Paul Santus and Chris Riley, while Brad Grundy scored for Royal.

Newburgh Harrock United won 3-0 at Gidlow Athletic, while a couple of goals from Steve Anderson helped Leigh Rangers to a surprise 5-1 home win over Hindley Town.

Crystalleisurewear.co.uk Division One top dogs Leigh Phoenix beat rivals Aspull 5-3, while AFC Tyldesley lost 3-2 at home to Belair.


A NEATLY-taken hat-trick by Mike Price wasn’t enough for Orrell Otters as they went down 4-3 against Aspull.

Joe Hull scored two, including the last-minute winner, while Paul Gaster and Ross Ellison also netted for Aspull.

Penlake came from 2-0 down to beat Halsall 3-2. Nick Grundy, Darryl Hale and Billy Tierney scored fro Penlake, while Dave Maudsley and Alex Grysdale replied.

Golborne Parkside and Knowsley South drew 2-2 as Nathan Drury and Danny Harrison netted for the hosts.

Wigan Cosmos and Highfield Grange also drew 2-2 as Lee Hilton and Alex Rigby scored for Cosmos and Martin Meehan and Ian West replied.

In Division One, Digmoor prevailed 3-1 at St Cuthbert’s as Ian White, Alex Stoddern and Paul Rooney netted. Ryan Molyneux replied.

Upholland Rangers’ Steve Baxter hit a brace to give his side a 2-0 lead against Marus Bridge. Ryan Jones and Kieron Elsdon levelled it up, only for Lawrence Hamilton and Paul Gregory to make it 4-2 for Rangers.

Academy Sports were 3-1 winners against Orrell Sorrento with Martin Neville, Calvin Critchley and Steve Biddleston on target. Luke Blackburn replied.

In Division Three Halsall Res came from 3-0 behind to draw 3-3 against Parklands.

Sam Woods (2) and Jipin Patel scored for Parklands, while Dean Fitzgerald, Jeff Highton and Ollie Griffiths provided the firepower for Halsall.

Bryn Park held on for a 5-4 win against Forefield Rangers. Josh Rogerson (2), Paul Rigby, Chris McVey and Mark Griffiths were on target for the victors.

Ince United visited Checker Lane and won 7-3. Simon Sherratt, Tom Meo, Paul Liptrot (2), John Webster and an own goal registered.

Goose Green Res came from behind to beat Upholland Res 3-1.

Olympic Athletic led 3-2 at half-time against Garswood United, but then conceded three unanswered goals in the second period.

Danny Clark (2), Chris Francis, Mark Evans and Dave Nolan scored for Garswood, while Craig Nelson, Chris Bagshaw and Liam Dyas replied.

In Division Three A Morris hosted AFC Rainford and drew 4-4.

Elliot Gaskell (2), James Hyde and Jamie Taylor scored for Rainford, while Ben Martin, John Harrison, Steve Morgan and Tom Clarkin replied.

Lower Ince and Leigh Rovers shared 10 goals in a real thriller. On target for Ince were Ant Whitton (3) and Rick Serples (2).

Hindley Green Spinners secured a terrific 6-1 win against PNC Athletic as Dale Pollitt (3), Mark Gibson (2) and Dave Harlow scored.

Willis Hartley replied.

Digmoor drew 2-2 with Martland Mill, while St Cuthbert’s came from behind to beat Mitch FC 4-3.

Shaun Forshaw, James Demmings, Mike Hair and Jordan Atherton scored for Cuth’s, with Joe Judge (2) and Jordan Goodhall replying.

Ashton Athletic Under-17s thumped Town Green 10-0 with Rob Thomas (4), Oliver Groquet (3), Russ Ainscough, Ryan Murray and Rob Marsh on target.
