CYCLING hero Bradley Wiggins has become Britain’s greatest ever Olympian.
He was cheered on by Shevington-born wife Cath as he finished the 44km time trial in a time of 50mins 35 seconds, beating German Tony Martin by 42 seconds.
Team GB’s Chris Froome picked up the Bronze medal.
It is Wiggins’ seventh Olympic medal – his fourth gold – which means he overtakes Sir Steve Redgrave who won six.
The historic victory comes less than a fortnight after he became the first ever Brit to win the Tour de France.
