Goshen an exciting entry at Haydock's behind closed doors meeting on Saturday

The racing gets underway at 12.55pm with the finale at 4.15pm. We have previewed the action with stats and analysis.

The most exciting runner on Saturday is Goshen who returns to action in the £20,000 14-furlong handicap at 3.45pm. Gary Moore’s superstar fell at the final flight when set for victory in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and a tilt at the 2021 Champion Hurdle is his long-term target.

Goshen also boasts fine form on the Flat having won three of his five starts in this sphere, which included an easy win by seven lengths at Nottingham on his last run on the Flat in October, 2019. This looks a competitive event and he might need this reappearance, however it is lovely to see him back in action here.

The feature race is the £40,000 five-furlong handicap at 2.40pm in which 11 runners go to post. Top-weight Count D’orsay bids to back up a smart win over course and distance at Haydock earlier this month for Tim Easterby. The son of Dandy Man relishes testing ground and may have more improvement in him, having seen off Came From The Dark on that occasion, who reopposes in this event.

Militia was back in sixth in that race at Haydock, having previously won three starts in a row. However, the handicapper may just have a handle on him now and is taken on.

Ainsdale was progressive when last seen, racking up a hat-trick for Karl Burke. Off the track for 332 days, he needs to prove that he can run well first time out, but he remains a nice prospect, particularly given his liking for soft ground.

Dark Shot has enjoyed a good season and was a smart winner at Leicester last time out. He is now a seven-year-old, but is capable of further progress following that smart win last time out.

Lord Riddiford is a smart performer and has undergone wind surgery since finishing fifth in a competitive event at Newcastle. He does need to prove he is as effective back on turf. George Cornelius is talented but has to prove he still retains his best form having been well-beaten at Royal Ascot on his latest start.

The £25,000 mile handicap (2.05pm) is another highlight in which Danyah makes appeal for Owen Burrows. He was a good third in a competitive event at Ripon on his latest start and there remains plenty of mileage in his mark of 93.

Hayadh comes into this race in good form, having captured a contest at Musselburgh last time out, but does need to back that up. Key Victory has his first start for 233 days having finished fifth at Meydan at the Dubai Carnival. He previously boasts some solid handicap form and could be the one they all have to beat.

Milltown Star was a solid sixth in a competitive handicap at Doncaster last time and is another to consider, along with Alternative Fact who boasts course and distance winning form and has run a number of fine races this season.

Cardsharp is a talented individual at his best, but needs to return to form having finished a disappointing ninth at Sandown on his latest start.

Across the rest of the card, Lady Hayes is interesting in the £6,300 Novice Stakes at 12.55pm having made a winning debut at Salisbury earlier this month.
