£225,000 Group One Sprint Cup the highlight of Haydock's Saturday meeting

The race is live on ITV at 3.25 as Hello Youmzain bids to make history as just the second horse since the race’s inception in 1966 to win multiple renewals of the six-furlong event. We have previewed the race with tips and analysis as 13 runners go to post.

The favourite for the G1 contest is Dream Of Dreams (11/4). He bids to follow up a scintillating success in the G2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury in which he romped to victory by seven lengths. The six-year-old also boasts winning form over course and distance and looks sure to go close for Sir Michael Stoute.

Hello Youmzain (3/1) is bidding to become the first horse since Be Friendly (1966 & 1967) to win multiple renewals of the Sprint Cup following his gutsy win in the race last year. He made all on that occasion and will relish ground conditions underfoot if they come up soft.

He has been in fine form again this year landing the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and finishing a good second in the G1 Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville last time out. This track clearly plays to his strengths and he is a major player.

Golden Horde (9/2) landed the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on his first start this term and has not been disgraced in two runs since. Soft ground would be a slight concern, but he remains unexposed and looks to hold live claims.

Lope Y Fernandez (13/2) has run a number of fine races in defeat this season, with placed efforts in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, G1 Prix Jean Prat and G1 Prix Maurice De Gheest. This trip looks sure to suit and he is of interest.

Art Power (13/2) struggled to live with the demands of G1 company when only sixth in the Nunthorpe at York behind Battaash on his latest start. However, it would be folly to write him off based on that effort and the experience should stand him in good stead for this assignment, whilst Tabdeed (8/1) is unexposed and was impressive at Newbury on his most recent outing.

The Tin Man (20/1) has form figures of first, second, second and third in this race and therefore warrants a mention at a bigger price along with Glen Shiel (12/1) who will be partnered by Hollie Doyle, enjoying her first ride in a British Group One event.

Archer’s Dream (25/1) boasts winning form over course and distance at Haydock, but this clearly demands more.

Forever In Dreams (25/1) was well-beaten in this event last year, but is another former winner over course and distance. She promises to be suited by ground conditions and is an interesting each-way contender.

Brando (25/1) was a fine second in the 2018 renewal of the Sprint Cup, but has struggled so far this term, whilst stable companion Queen Jo Jo (25/1) needs to take another step forward following a fine effort when third at York last time.

The 13 runners are completed by Summerghand who has enjoyed a tremendous season courtesy of a victory in the Stewards’ Cup. However, he needs to take his form to another level to feature here.

Big-race selection: Hello Youmzain 3/1

A fascinating renewal of the Sprint Cup which can go to Hello Youmzain. He promises to be suited by ground conditions and clearly relishes this track. The defending champion can get the better of Dream Of Dreams and Golden Horde.

Away from the feature Betfair Sprint Cup, Haydock’s seven-race card on Saturday boasts some magnificent racing. The first race takes place at 1.10pm with the finale at 4.35pm. Four races are also live on ITV Racing.

The £80,000 Old Borough Cup Handicap promises to be a fascinating event. Glencadam Glory finished a fine second to Fujaira Prince in the Ebor at York, but has to defy top-weight here.Euchen Glen was an excellent fifth in the Ebor, but is another horse who has to carry plenty of weight.

Rhytmic Intent ran out a smooth winner at Newbury on his latest start and looks sure to be suited by soft ground. This contest demands more but he is improving all the time. As is Future Investment who scored over two miles at Chepstow on his latest start. The four-year-old remains thoroughly unexposed and looks sure to be suited by this stiff test of stamina.

Reshoun captured the 2018 running of the Old Borough Cup and looked back to somewhere near his best when scoring at Newbury in July. He struggled in a Listed race last time out, but will be much more at home here. Indianapolis has always threatened to win a big handicap and ran a cracker to finish fourth at York last time out.

The other £80,000 event is the 14-furlong handicap at 2.15pm which a small but select field of five go to post. Favorite Moon bids to bounce back from a disappointing effort at York last time when a well-beaten 11th. However, he had previously beaten St Leger candidate Subjectivist with a smart success at Haydock over course and distance. Soft ground will play to his strengths and he is a leading player here.

Al Dabaran represents Charlie Appleby and has to respected following two fine efforts in Group company this season. He was third to subsequent Irish Derby winner Santiago at Royal Ascot in June, before finishing a good third at Newmarket to the progressive Al Aasy last time out.

Midrarr is set to be partnered by Hollie Doyle and is capable of further progress following a smart win at Chester in a novice event last time out, whilst Arthurian Fable is progressing with every run and was a good fourth in handicap company at York last time out.

Dancing Harry looks capable of further improvement on the back of a good second at Sandown last time out and completes the five-runner field.

Saturday’s action also features the £50,400 G3 Superior Mile Stakes (1.45pm). My Oberon and Khaloosy were second and third respectively in the G3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes both remain unexposed at this stage in their careers. My Oberon looks a particularly exciting prospect and could prove too strong here.

Others to consider in the contest are Kinross who was sixth in the 2000 Guineas earlier this year, the unexposed Top Rank who was third in a competitive handicap at York and Royal Ascot winner Dark Vision. It promises to be a fine day of racing at Haydock Park.
