They came from behind to beat Hull KR 30-16 in a game described as "ugly" by the Warriors boss.

They outscored their opponents five tries to three and though they never really looked in danger of losing, it was a patchy display.

"I'm not really bothered about not playing great, I just wanted to see them play together as a team, and we did that," said Lam.

"It's nice to be two points clear but we've got to keep grounded, we've got a lot of work to do.

"I knew it was going to be tough. I just said in the dressing room, 'I'm proud of your resilience' because sometimes you have to win those ugly games and this time last year we probably would have lost it.

"But they hung in there together and got through some of the decisions which were made, the bounces of the balls... I was proud of our boys."

Two tries by Jackson Hastings sandwiched a touchdown by Liam Farrell in the first-half.

And after KR had cut the score to 18-16 early in the second-half, the Warriors pulled clear with tries from Sam Powell and Liam Marshall. Zak Hardaker struck all five conversions.

The Robins lost four players to injury including Matt Storton, who limped off after a tackle which saw Ben Flower placed on report moments after coming off the bench for his first appearance of the year.

"That one needs to be looked at," said KR coach Tony Smith. "It's not my job to judge - but I'm sure those who do, will take a look at it."

The Rovers have only won one game this season but former Warrington boss Smith said: "We should get a bit of confidence from holding a team top of the league and a dangerous team. It was a good effort today - Wigan took some opportunities really well, they'll do a job on plenty of teams at this place in particular this year.

"So to give ourselves a shot is encouraging.

"We could have got a bit more out of it if we were a bit better attack-wise, we didn't ask enough of our opponents."

Lam said he had not reviewed Flower's challenge and added: "Fingers crossed it's okay".

He reported no fresh injuries ahead of Friday's trip to Salford.
