It was their heaviest loss of the season - and their first defeat since before lockdown.

Oliver Gildart marked his return from a 10-month layoff but there were few positives for the Warriors coach.

Lam said: "We had a lot of positional changes and new players in the team to rotate the squad - there's always a danger.

"I was hoping for energy but it was in reverse, they looked flat.

"It wasn't Wigan today. Players had an opportunity to put their best foot forward to try and get into our 17 - so it was disappointing.

"When you look at the players who came in - Oli Partington, Oli Gildart, Joe Greenwood, Ben Flower stepping up to start - it's a good side. They're all first class players. I'm not making any excuses at all. We had a lot of experience there.

"I can't believe we played that way to be honest, I can't get my head around where it went wrong. We'll have an honest meeting and be direct about what needs sorting out."

Hull KR, who also made seven changes to their line-up, battled back from 6-0 down to take a 10-point lead into half-time and then led 32-12 by the 50th minute.

"The danger today was being out-enthused and I thought Hull KR played pretty well, we looked tired," added Lam.

Robins coach Tony Smith said: "We had the energy and I don't think Wigan were quite at the best, we'll take credit for some of that but with short turnarounds that can happen."
