The winger hobbled off Widnes’ artificial surface in Friday’s 32-24 win.

Wigan were waiting for swelling to ease before they could give a recovery time-frame but Burgess will likely be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Tom Davies will take his place in the starting side after recovering from a rolled ankle, probably back into his familiar role on the right, with Liam Marshall switching to the left.

And Wane also revealed Dom Manfredi – who hasn’t played a top-level game in nearly two years – is on course for a return later in the summer.

Meanwhile, NRL outfit Wests Tigers have reportedly cooled their interest in Oliver Gildart.

The Wigan centre is out of contract at the end of this season and had been linked with a move to the Tigers.

Recruitment manager Dave Warwick checked him out during a recent trip to England.

But Australian journalist The Mole says the form of youngster Esan Marsters has persuaded them to decide against a move for Gildart, who has also surfaced on St Helens’ radar.
