On-fire Marshall modest about his start

The winger marked his second game for his hometown club with a 16-point haul - the same number of points the Wolves scored in the 38-16 thumping.

But Marshall, 20, was quick to deflect any praise onto his team-mates.

He said: “It went better than expected but it makes it easy when you have quality players like George (Williams) and Liam Farrell inside you.

“I think, for all the tries, if anyone was on the left wing they’d have scored them.

“I’m only two games in, I’ll just keep on going and hopefully get some more games.”

Marshall – who made a debut the previous week against Leigh – set the tone for the emphatic win by crossing from Williams’ kick inside seven minutes.

His second try followed - from Sean O’Loughlin’s bounced pass - and he pounced on Kurt Gidley’s error for his hat-trick, before wrapping up his haul late on.

“I was happy to get the first one to settle me down, it was a great read by George, but after that I didn’t really think about the tries,” said Marshall, who spent last year working as an trainee accountant while playing at Swinton.

“All through the game the focus was on getting a win, and the tries was just a bonus on the end.”

With Lewis Tierney and Joe Burgess both sidelines for around five more weeks - and Dom Manfredi out until at least late-season - Marshall looks poised for an extended run in the side.

Wigan are next in action a week on Sunday, at home to Huddersfield.

“All I can do is try and play as well as I can and try and put my hand up to the boss,” he added.

“There are quality players to come back, it’s going to be a tough ask (to play when they’re available), all I can do is put my hand up and then it’s his choice.”
