Ganson to be given Warriors chance by Wane

Shaun Wane has been assessing his options since Kiwi halfback Thomas Leuluai was ruled out with a broken jaw.

And Ganson - son of former referee Steve - appears next in line to step-up after some impressive performances for the Under-19s.

He scored a hat-trick in his last match, as the Under-19s beat Catalans 46-8 at Robin Park on Sunday.

Wane said: “I’m thinking of bringing him into the side at some point in the near-future, he’s done really well in training and in his matches, and he’s earned his chance.”

Three other academy-graduates who have debuted this season – Liam Forsyth, Liam Marshall and Tom Davies – are currently in the side.

Ganson’s elevation to the side would possibly be to the bench, to support fit-again No.9 Micky McIlorum – which would allow Sam Powell to switch to the halfback role left vacant by Leuluai’s injury.

Wane has other options, including playing Sean O’Loughlin or Nick Gregson in the role.

Alternatively, he could move Morgan Escare to halfback – a switch would allow fit-again Lewis Tierney to come back into the fold at full-back.

The coach says he has yet to decide his plan for Saturday’s trip to Castleford.

But his options diminish the following week, as both O’Loughlin and stand-off George Williams are on England duty.

Meanwhile, it is understood the Cook Islands would like Wigan centre Anthony Gelling to fly Down Under for next month’s Test with Papua New Guinea.

The game takes place on May 6, on the same triple-bill headlined by England’s Test against Samoa which will involve George Williams and Sean O’Loughlin.

Referee Robert Hicks will take charge of Wigan’s game at Castleford, which is not on TV.

Wigan Under-19s player Oliver Partington has been added to England Under-18s training squad.
