Rumours have been simmering for weeks that the former Sydney Roosters halfback – who played a key role in preserving Salford’s Super League status – could be heading to the Warriors for 2019.

But former Red Devils owner Dr Marwan Koukash categorically denied he would be joining Wigan.

Replying to fans on Twitter, he wrote: “(Hastings) will not play for Wigan next year. That is 100 per cent.”

When challenged about his tweet, he offered a £1,900 bet for charity if he was wrong.

Koukash no longer owns the Red Devils but his comments carry weight, given he funded the short-term capture of Hastings in time for the club’s Qualifiers campaign.

Wigan had also looked at seeing if Lachlan Lam may follow his dad, Adrian, to Wigan next year, but it appears the PNG international is staying at Sydney Roosters.
