Wigan Warriors, local radio and fans are starting to know him by his new moniker.

The amicably Aussie has revealed even friends back home are using the tag.

“I didn’t make it up, that’s for sure,” said Hamlin.

“I don’t know who did but it seems to have stuck and, not only that, it’s gone back home – people back there are calling it me now!

“I don’t mind it. There are worse things to be called than ‘The Hammer’ – I’ll take it.” It remains to be seen whether Shaun Wane will call on the compact front-rower to try and beat Warrington into submission on Friday.

With prop Ben Flower and centre Dan Sarginson fit to return, Wane has some healthy competition for places.

And with John Bateman covering at centre in the 46-8 win against Leeds – which saw Joe Greenwood make his debut – it could be forwards on the fringes, like Hamlin, who feel the squeeze.

But in their favour was their collective strong performance last Thursday night in racking up more than 40 points for the fourth time this year.

“I couldn’t say anyone had a bad game, everyone played well, everyone did their job,” said Hamlin, 21.

“If everyone does that, we put ourselves in a good position.

“The biggest thing for us is, we don’t want to have one good win and drop off – we want to win against Warrington.”
