Jake's loan hopes as KR's injury woes mount

The halfback, who faced his parent club last Friday night in their 30-0 loss, is enjoying his loan spell at the Red Devils.

The 22-year-old said: “I’m enjoying the game-time, we just need to put some performances together after two disappointing losses.

“But it’s good to play at Super League level which is what I want, so I can’t complain.

“The loan has been extended and so I’ve got until the end of May and then I’ll go from there.”

Shorrocks was rewarded with a new deal for his role in Wigan’s Grand Final charge in 2016, mainly as a replacement hooker, but wrecked his knee in his only appearance last year, at Widnes.

Wigan allowed Shorrocks to go on loan as they have been quite fortunate with injuries this season, and opportunities in Shaun Wane’s squad were limited.

By contrast, their next opponents, Hull KR, are down to the bare bones.

Coach Tim Sheens could be without 11 of his first-choice 17 for Sunday’s Challenge Cup tie at Craven Park.

Danny McGuire (leg), Maurice Blair (back) and Chris Clarkson (hip) all suffered injuries in Sunday’s 54-18 loss at Wakefield.

Sheens is already without Justin Carney, Nick Scuton, Shaun Lunt, Andrew Heffernan, Lee Jewitt, Danny Addy, Joe Wardill and George Lawler through injury, while centre Thomas Minns is suspended following a failed drugs test.
