Joe Burgess winging his way to Salford Red Devils
Joe Burgess looks set to be playing for Salford next season.
Wigantoday understands the winger has agreed a contract to play for the Red Devils from 2021.
The club’s interest in Burgess had already been reported, but it is now thought a deal has been struck.
His Warriors contract runs out at the end of this season and the 25-year-old had slipped behind Liam Marshall and Dom Manfredi in the pecking order before this campaign was halted in March.
The academy-product, who debuted for his hometown club in 2013, has left Wigan once before – to spend 2016 in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and Souths.
He returned the following year and scored a hat-trick in the World Club Challenge victory against Cronulla.
There has been no confirmation from either club and, given the recruiting club usually announces a signing, fans may have to wait for official word; Salford have a track-record of only announcing their signings towards the end of the year.
French full-back Morgan Escare, released by Wigan during the lockdown, is expected to join the Red Devils when the season restarts. Dan Sarginson, Lee Mossop, Gil Dudson and Greg Burke are among their ex-Warriors.
Wigan are also losing Ben Flower to Toronto at the end of the year, another move which has not been confirmed.
