Kris Radlinski has had two driving ambitions this off-season – to improve their Robin Park HQ and to make players focus more recovery.

The club’s executive director believes their training centre, which they moved to from Orrell more than a year ago, is among the best in the sport... and he wants to make it even better.

But he also wants players to take more responsibility about their recovery at home, underlining the benefits to them and the team.

Radlinski explained: “My main driving points in the off-season are recovery and Robin Park.

“I think our facility is the best in rugby league but I think we can get even better.

“And I want to raise the bar on our recovery, do our food better, our sleep better, and make us better recovered and better athletes.

“I’m not sure if I went into a 23-year-old player’s fridge it would look like an athlete’s fridge. I’m not sure he’d have a foam roller in his living room.

“I think every single player should have an ice machine in his garage – it’s about looking after injuries that may get him another contract at the end of his career.

“I’m not talking two or three per cent gains, I’m talking 10 per cent gains, and ultimately makes us better out there.”

Wigan’s young players returned for pre-season training this week.

They will be followed by more senior players over the coming weeks ahead of the start of the new season on March 11.
