Liam Farrell's hopes for two young Wigan Warriors forwards


Kai Pearce-Paul and James McDonnell both made their debuts in a young side beaten by St Helens last season.
Pearce-Paul, signed from London Broncos more than a year ago, and McDonnell may both eye openings in the side this year.

Hide AdAlthough John Bateman has returned, the Warriors have lost Sean O’Loughlin (retirement), Joe Greenwood (Huddersfield) and fringe back-rower Jack Wells (Salford) since last season – as well as props Ben Flower (Leigh) and George Burgess (departed).
Asked if he expects to see Pearce-Paul edge into the mix, Farrell – one of the most respected voices in the squad – replied: “I hope so.
“Last year we saw glimpses of what he can do.
“He’s a big body, he causes threats and he looks the part in training.
“If he can get some time in the top squad – and not just Kai, but James as well – there’s some talent there and hopefully we see both of them coming through.”

Hide AdWigan, meanwhile, were hoping to discover today whether they can return to their Robin Park HQ.
It has been closed for more than a week following a Covid-19 outbreak.
Staff and players underwent a second round of testing yesterday and depending on the results, the RFL’s multiple cases group will decide when they can return to training.
