Here are nine other occasions they have made a small part of club history during the Super League era...
1. Middlesex Sevens
Wigan made history when they became the first rugby league team to enter the Twickenham Sevens in 1996. And they marked the occasion by claiming victory.
2. Cross-code Challenge
The Sevens was a tune-up for Wigans challenge with union outfit Bath. They predictably won the game under league rules, at Manchesters Maine Road by 82 6 before going down 44-19 under union rules in front of 42,000 fans at Twickenham.
3. Paris St Germain
The creation of Super League saw Paris St Germain enter the competition in 1996. Wigan won 76-8 in France in May before a tighter affair in the return leg, winning 24-20 (above, Henry Paul)
4. Gateshead Thunder
Thunder joined Super League in 1999 and Wigans away game proved historic, with the match moved to Hearts ground in Scotland and Thunder claiming a 20-16 win. Here is future Warrior Brian Carney in action. Picture: SWPix
