Super League is aiming for a restart at the beginning of August - and Adrian Lam believes this salvaged campaign could still prove one of the most exciting seasons yet.

Club bosses will discuss plans to resume the competition - suspended since mid-March because of Covid-19 - on August 1 with a series of behind-closed-doors venues.

They hope games can be played in front of limited crowds from October 1, though that will depend on government restrictions and advice.

From that point, three schedules have been drawn up with different end dates - November 28, December 12 and January 16 - with those options to be discussed by club bosses at a meeting next week. The Challenge Cup is incorporated into all of those different formats.

And with an end in sight to the postponed campaign, Wigan boss Lam has boldly predicted the 2020 campaign can be the best Super League season ever.

He reckons the lockdown will give everyone connected to the sport a greater appreciation once the season resumes, ensuring the competition makes a strong recover from the coronavirus crisis.

“I think with all the doom and gloom right now, this season has the potential to be one of the best there has been,” said Lam.

“Everyone can be guilty of taking things for granted at certain times.

“And I think this period has made everyone appreciate what they’ve had and when we get back, I think fans will take a bigger interest in the competition and everything will be dialed up a notch.”

Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."
