Wane has decision to make on Sarginson

Shaun Wane has yet to decide whether to recall Dan Sarginson this weekend.

The Warriors centre is fit to play in Sunday’s home game against Wakefield.

But Wane is leaning towards keeping him on ice for another week as he continues to build up his strength following a shoulder injury.

He will monitor Sarginson’s progress this week and consult with his physio staff before making a call.

Wane said: “Sarge is getting better and better every day.

“I may give him another week – there’s no rush to make a decision, and I’ll speak to the physio first.

“But he’s improving every day and so whether it’s this week or next week for the Castleford game, we’ll see.”

Sarginson returned to Wigan this year after a season with Gold Coast as a replacement for Anthony Gelling.

He played in the first two Super League games of the campaign, wins against Salford and Hull FC, but struggled to make his mark.

Wane later explained he was nursing a shoulder injury and has left him out the side for the last two matches to give him time in the gym to regain his strength. If he misses the visit of Wakefield, John Bateman would appear the likeliest candidate to continue at right centre.

The only other change Wane is likely to consider is whether to give French prop Romain Navarrete a chance.

The Warriors chief watched him play on dual-registration for Swinton on Sunday in a 52-12 defeat by Toronto and Wane admits he is “probably the next in line” for a place in his side.

Navarrete’s compatriot Morgan Escare has recovered from the rolled ankle injury which limited his game-time last Friday night.
