He expects the Giants’ big pack and polished backline to give his Warriors players a gruelling test – despite the Yorkshire side’s injury woes.

The absence of key players Danny Brough, Scott Grix, Craig Huby and Joe Wardle were compounded today by Luke Robinson’s immediate retirement because of a hip injury.

Wane says there is no danger of complacency creeping into their plans, particularly with one eye on the following week’s World Club Series match.

“I’m not thinking about their injuries, I’m thinking we’ll go there and face a strong, competitive side who will turn up,” he said.

“I’m expecting a really tough, phyical game and it’s absolutely perfect preparation for the World Club.”

Their preparations may include a joint-training session with Australian champions North Queensland Cowboys next week.

It has not been confirmed and will depend upon both teams’ scheduling during an important week, but officials from both camps are hoping it can be arranged. An opposed session between Wigan and Souths Sydney a year ago proved popular with fans.

The Warriors face Brisbane on February 20, the day before the NRL champions take on Leeds in the World Club Challenge.

Wane has no fresh injury concerns ahead of Friday’s televised game and is expected to stick with the same squad which beat Catalans 12-6 in their opener last Friday.
