Warriors to play with Joseph's Goal charity logo on shirts

Charity Joseph's Goal will be emblazoned across the front of Wigan's shirt for next week's game at Catalans.

Due to restrictions in France, main partners 188BET are unable to take their place on the front of the Warriors’ alternate shirt and have kindly allowed for the position to go to this local charity.

Joseph’s Goal was set up by Wigantoday’s reporter Paul Kendrick and wife Emma after their eldest son Joseph, eight, was born with NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia).

Money raised by the charity goes towards researching the very rare life-limiting genetic disorder.

All of the match worn shirts from the game will be auctioned off later in the year whilst Wigan fans can also support the charity by taking part in the Easter Monday Golden Gamble where the first prize will be two places on the club’s private chartered flight to Perpignan.

All additional proceeds from the Golden Gamble draw at the Hull KR game will go to Joseph’s Goal.

Club Captain, Sean O’Loughlin, an ambassador of Joseph’s Goal, said: “You can’t help but be inspired by Joe and his incredible story. I’ve got to know Joe and his family quite well over the years and it’s amazing how he keeps battling on.

“Given just weeks to live when he was born, Joe is a Warrior in the literal sense and someone the town is really proud of. I couldn’t think of a better and more worthy cause for us to get behind as a club. Hopefully this will raise more awareness for the charity and plenty of money too!”

Paul said: “We are so grateful to the Warriors and 188BET for their support in raising awareness and funds for Joseph’s Goal, it’s an amazing gesture.

“Our whole family have always followed the team going back to my grandparents and great grandparents, and to see the Joseph’s Goal logo on the front of the jerseys in France will be such a special moment for us all.

“Hopefully Joe will bring the team good luck and we can raise the profile of Joseph’s Goal even further in the search for a cure for NKH.”

The decision to work with Joseph’s Goal was taken after discussions with Joining Jack, which has previously been on the front of the shirt.

Andy Johnson said: “Joining Jack have worked with Wigan Warriors for years and we will continue to do so.

“We fully support the decision to recognise the work of another local charity and understand the situation more than most, the position that Paul and Emma Kendrick find themselves in. Look out for future collaborations between the Warriors and JoiningJack.”
