Why Adrian Lam believes Wigan Warriors are set for best pre-season

He left sun-kissed Sydney to return to snow-hit Wigan, but Adrian Lam insists he couldn’t have been more excited to get back on board.

The Warriors coach has linked-up with the squad after flying back last week.

He says starting preparing for the new campaign has been the best way to exorcise the demons of last November’s heartbreaking 8-4 Grand Final loss, in which they were condemned to defeat by Jack Welsby’s last-second try.

Lam said: “I’m so excited to be back in, I can’t tell you.

“Because of the way last season ended, in quite cruel circumstances for us, the quickest way of moving on from that is getting back and working hard towards getting ourselves back into that kind of position to go one better.”

Lam, heading into his third season as head coach, guided Wigan to the League Leaders Shield last season.

“I think this is going to be our best pre-season in my time here, because the players understand the systems a lot more and it’s easier for them slot back into it,” he added.

Jai Field, who has joined Wigan having played at Parramatta last season, and John Bateman are among the senior players back on board.

But Australian duo Bevan French and Jackson Hastings are doing their own training and are only due to return to the country next month.
