The jet-heeled full-back and his compatriot, Romain Navarrete, are both expected to figure in the title decider at Old Trafford.

And if they do they will become the first French players to figure in a Super League Grand Final.

In a year in which their former club Catalans won the Challenge Cup – and Toulouse finished just one place from the Million Pound Game promotion play-off – their involvement against Warrington would complete a neat hat-trick for the nation’s rugby league followers.

Escare said: “It’s very exciting to be the first French players in a Grand Final and it’s a big story for French rugby league.

“It was a big story for Catalans, and good for them to win the Cup, and now it’s a good story for Romain and myself.”

Escare – a firm fans’ favourite – came off the bench late into Friday’s semi-final win against Castleford, having started the previous two matches.

His acceleration and evasiveness could give Shaun Wane another attacking option against tiring defenders late on.

“I prefer to start but it’s okay to play from the bench,” said the 26-year-old. “When I come into the game I look to bring more speed, and quicken the game up to make the coaches happy.”

Escare, who will have his dad in the crowd at Manchester United’s home-ground, is nearing the end of his second year with Wigan. He added: “My English is better and I’m more comfortable, I talk more to the players now.”
