Wigan Warriors: Jake Wardle reflects on his first few weeks at Robin Park Arena following his move from Huddersfield Giants

The 24-year-old joined the club on a three-year deal from Huddersfield Giants back in October, and is excited to get going in cherry and white.

Wardle admits having the opportunity to work with Matty Peet was a huge pulling factor, and states now felt like the right time to make the move after previous attempts by Wigan to sign him.

He said: “The first few weeks have been very good, all the boys have made me feel really welcome, so it feels like I’ve been here longer than I actually have. It’s all positive.

“When the opportunity came to join Wigan, it’s something I wanted to do.

“The success of the club speaks for itself, but Matty (Peet) is one of the big reasons I came.

“To be able to learn off the experiences of the coaches here will only bode well for all of us.

“Seeing what the team did last year and the culture they’ve got was something I wanted to be a part of.

“I’ve had a look round the place a few times, so it was in the back of my mind. When the opportunity came up again, it felt like the right time.

“I’ve not played with a lot of the lads before, so there are a lot of new combinations I need to work on.

“Jai (Field), Bevan (French) and Liam (Marshall) are a defenders nightmare so it’ll be a relief to be playing with them, and hopefully I’ll be able to give them a bit of space.

“I can’t wait to get out on the field with the ball in my hands.

“Pre-season is tough, but it’s enjoyable as well. I like the challenge and hopefully it’ll stand me in good stead when the season gets going.

“I want to cement my spot in the next 12 months, playing as well as I can and consistently.”

Wardle’s first taste of competitive action with Wigan will come on February 18, when Peet’s side take on Hull KR at Craven Park in their Super League opener.
