The mid-season recruit is set to make his Wigan debut against Leeds this evening. But the focus of the DW crowd and the glare of the Sky Sports cameras will be nothing compared to his first duty as a Warriors player on Monday.

“Waney threw me in at the deep end, I had to do a speech in front of all of the lads which I don’t like doing,” said the 25-year-old.

“I just talked about how much I’m looking forward to playing alongside them and playing here. They play for each other and that’s what I like.”

Greenwood burst onto the Super League scene at St Helens before moving to Gold Coast Titans ahead of last season.

He figured in 22 NRL matches - missing only two through injury - but was frozen out when Garth Brennan took over as coach.

Tonight’s game with be his first since playing for Titans’ feeder club Burleigh Bears a month ago.

“It’s going to be a big task, having not played (top level) this year, and hopefully my legs and lungs don’t blow out straight away,” he said.

“But it’s going to be massive, and hopefully I’ll get the energy from the crowd.”

Wigan had hoped Greenwood could have arrived in time for last week’s match at Castleford when they were struggling for forwards.

But he added: “My girlfriend was on my visa and she had to work her notice, so I said, ‘I can’t, if I have to leave the country she’d be there illegally!’”

Leeds have lost their last six matches and a defeat tonight would leave them vulnerable to tumbling into the bottom-four.

Second-placed Wigan are back at home for the first time in seven weeks - during which time a hybrid pitch has been installed at the DW Stadium.
