The forward was only scheduled to return next week – with the rest of the England and France internationals. But he decided to cut short his off-season break as he looks to build on his successful 2018 campaign.Greenwood said: “I didn’t know I was going to be in already, I thought I’d come in and see the lads and do a couple of days.“Obviously we’ve a new coach and we start the season earlier than normal so I just thought I’d get some extra sessions in.”Greenwood made his England debut in the third Test against New Zealand. And though he didn’t feature in the other two games, he says the non-playing members of the squad were still worked hard by Wayne Bennett’s staff.“The lads who didn’t get picked were getting flogged instead of playing games, so it wasn’t as if we weren’t doing anything – it was like another pre-season,” he said.“Then I was lucky enough to make my debut in the last Test.“It was a great experience which will stay with me, and it’s given me a taste now.“I need to get my head down and hopefully I get the call next time.”Former St Helens forward Greenwood joined Wigan midway through last season after being frozen out at Gold Coast Titans. He’s already noticed some changes brought in by new coach Adrian Lam.“There are new calls to learn – I’ve only just got used to the old ones,” he smiled. “There are a couple new faces, too.“Obviously Zak was here at the back end of last year and if you look through the squad, we’re a good young team.“We’ve got the ability and Lammy has already told us the challenge is to make history and go back to back.”
