Wigan's first home game of the year in on '“ after a second pitch inspection gave tonight's fixture against Widnes the green-light.

Officials inspected the weather-hit pitch at 5pm yesterday and agreed the match could go ahead, subject to a second check today.

They reconvened at 10.30am this morning and were satisfied the pitch is suitable to be played on.

A Warriors statement read: “Every facet, particularly fan safety and the pitch, has been considered and the game will go ahead this evening as planned.”

The DW Stadium has under-soil heating and additional heating apparatus was brought in to help protect the surface.

This will be the Warriors’ first match at the DW Stadium in nearly six months, when a 38-20 loss to Castleford effectively crushed their top-four hopes at the end of last season.

Several other Super League games have been hit by the weather.
