Wigan Warriors will be firing on all cylinders soon, says Williams
George Williams believes it is only a matter of time before Wigan are 'firing on all cylinders.'
Shaun Wane’s charges have climbed to second in the Super League table with four wins from five.
But by their own admission, their form has been patchy and Williams said: “There have been signs, there have been positives.
“We’re round five – give us a few weeks and I reckon we’ll be firing on all cylinders.”
Wigan head to Castleford on Sunday looking for their first victory against the Tigers at the fifth time of asking.
In their last meeting in September, the Tigers effectively killed off the Warriors’ top-four hopes and in the previous fixture, Wigan were hammered 54-4 at the Jungle – in a game which saw Ben Flower and Morgan Escare suffer season-ending injuries.
“Last time we went there, it wasn’t a good night, we got pumped and a few injuries too,” reflects Williams.
“But credit to them they were a top team last year and I’m sure they will be this year, too.
“I know some people are writing them off but they’re knocking off a few wins now and we look forward to the challenge.”
Sunday’s non-televised match will pit Williams against Luke Gale, who has been favoured in the England side in the last two years.
“Everyone on the plane to the World Cup wanted to play, and it wasn’t to be,” added Williams.
“Luke’s a great player and it’s a good chance to test myself.
“He’s also a good mate of mine, we have a good laugh. Our texts are probably a lot different to what people expect them to be!”
