WIGAN’S young guns have been challenged to prove their Super League credentials as they prepare to welcome the Australian Schoolboys tomorrow.
Warriors’ Under-19s face the Green and Gold in a much-anticipated game at Orrell’s Edge Hall Road.
Shaun Wane reckons fans will be in for a treat as stars of the future lock horns, ahead of two academy Tests early next month.
He said: “We have an intense rivalry with the Australians and it will be a physical game. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Under-19s boss Matty Peet received a boost yesterday after he was cleared to select his four England representatives in his Wigan line-up.
And Peet said: “If they want to play Super League, they need to step up in games like this.
“The Australian Schoolboys have some special players – but I’d like to think we have some special players, too.”
Lewis Tierney, Ryan Sutton and Jamie Doran – who all have first-team experience – will play as well as England academy representatives Jake Shorrocks, Luke Waterworth, Nick Gregson and Oliver Gildart.
“Originally the England lads weren’t due to play, but I spoke to the RFL and they’re happy for them to be involved,” added Peet.
“It’ll be good to let them know what they’re going to be up against.”
Kick-off is 12pm, admission is £5 adults, £3 concessions and free to 2015 season-ticket holders if they pre-book at the DW ticket office by 5pm today.
