WIGAN Warriors have confirmed that DW Sports Fitness will be the club’s main shirt sponsor for the Challenge Cup final.
The fitness club chain’s logo will be displayed on the front of Wigan’s cherry and white jersey, which will be worn by the players in Saturday’s match against Hull FC at Wembley.
It comes after Dave Whelan’s company paid a substantial five-figure sum for the one-off sponsorship agreement.
The existing 2013 Shirt Sponsorship agreement with Applicado Cheer has recently been terminated as the company is no longer in operation.
Mr Whelan said: “I am proud that the DW Sports Fitness logo will be across the front of the Warriors shirt in the cup final. I wish the club all the very best against Hull FC and am looking forward to being at Wembley to watch the game.”
“It has been a fantastic year for the town with Wigan Athletic winning the FA Cup back in May and I hope the rugby club can also return home with the cup on Saturday. It would be great to see two of sports most iconic trophies, the FA Cup and Challenge Cup both at home here in Wigan.”
The club will make a further announcement about future sponsorship in the coming weeks but in the meantime, chairman Ian Lenegan says he is grateful for Mr Whelan’s support.
“I would like to thank DW Sports Fitness for their support of the club and indeed the whole town for getting behind us ahead of the final,” he said.
“We are looking forward to around 30,000 Wigan fans in the Stadium getting behind the side this Saturday.
“The Believe campaign, which has been developed by Wigan Council, has been a huge success and to now see the local business community showing their support demonstrates how much the town loves its sport.”
