He suffered the eye-watering injury midway through Warrington's 30-10 loss at Catalans on Saturday.

Incredibly, Wiganer Hughes - a double-winner with the Warriors in 2013 - played on for the rest of the match.

He remained in France for treatment but was due to return home today.

Another Warrington player, Paul Wood - who is also from Wigan - had a testicle removed after suffering a similar injury in the '13 Grand Final.

Meanwhile, ex-Warriors Sam Tomkins and Micky McIlorum are among five Catalans players facing bans from the match.

The game match was marred by an on-field brawl as well as fighting in the stands.

Tomkins faces a three-game ban for punching and McIlorum one match for a high tackle.

Brayden Williame, Mickael Simon and Kenny Edwards are also set to miss their next match, against Leeds. Warrington’s Tom Lineham is also facing a one game ban.
